Questions people ask
Can you read my messages?
No. Your messages are encrypted on your phone before they ever leave it. We only store unreadable ciphertext. They can be opened only by the cooperation of two of your three verifiers — never by us.
What stops a message being sent while I’m alive?
A lot. A staged silence window over months, escalating reminders, an emergency contact reached first, then two-of-three confirmation, and finally a 7-day grace period where a single tap cancels everything. A false trigger is the thing we guard against hardest.
Who are the verifiers?
Three people you trust. After a long silence they’re asked to confirm your passing. Two must agree before anything is delivered. Each holds one encrypted key-share; alone it unlocks nothing.
What happens to my messages if I stop paying?
Nothing is deleted abruptly. There’s a long grace period and your verifiers are notified before anything is lost — never a silent deletion.
Is this a will or legal document?
No — MARAEL is for personal messages, not legal instructions. It’s a way to say goodbye, share memories, and leave words for the people who matter.
Why can’t I upload an existing video or photo?
On purpose. Every message is recorded live in the app — video from the camera, audio from the microphone, text typed in. There’s no import from your gallery. This keeps MARAEL from ever being used to pass off fake, borrowed or harmful footage as someone’s last words, and a quick on-device safety check runs before anything is sealed.
