Check-in

Checking in is how MARAEL knows you're still here. As long as you check in, nothing is ever sent to anyone.

The Check-in Interval

This is how often we ask you to confirm “I'm here”. Opening the app counts too. A shorter interval means we notice a long silence sooner; a longer one bothers you less.

• Nothing happens the moment you miss one — reminders start gently.
• Only after months of silence are your verifiers contacted at all.
• You can change this any time; it never shortens the safety net.

Pausing

Going travelling, into hospital, or somewhere without signal? Pause the timer. While paused, nobody is contacted and no countdown runs — the app simply waits for you.

• Choose how long to pause for.
• You can cancel a pause at any moment and go back to normal.
• Pausing is the simplest way to prevent a false alarm.

If You Do Go Silent

The escalation is deliberately slow and generous: gentle reminders first, then email and text, then your emergency contact is asked to reach you. Only after all of that are your three verifiers asked to confirm — and even then, two of them must agree, and there's a final grace period where a single tap from you cancels everything.
